Local government action

  • More / better walking and cycling routes are needed. Some narrow country lanes are impassable for pedestrians because of high hedges, narrow verges and the speed of traffic. Some local authorities overcome this by constructing new paths and cycle tracks on the field side of the hedge (and adding a new hedge or fence beyond that).

  • New developments (of shops and so on) should not increase car use. The trend to out-of-town shopping centres should be reversed. Planning permission for new supermarkets should not be be given.
